Breathe Easy Man

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and I worked together to create an educational campaign to promote earth-friendly accountability training for young students. The EPA had used the Breathe Easy Man character in an older campaign as a mascot, but needed to update him to be a more modern and realistic character for students to interact with at live events. The goal of the project was to have a comic book inspired activity book that promoted environmental practices to help clean air and to design a costume that a spokesperson could wear when visiting schools and libraries.

I put together a story utilizing the EPA’s recommendations and guidelines, then drew a comic for kids to read and color. The activity book was used for years in Illinois schools. The Breathe Easy Man costume was used at live events for many years, and even had a few commercials on local Chicago television.
